Roland subtractive RP systems (SRP™) produce form models faster than any 3D printer on the market and easier than any other CNC mill on the market. Lower cost of ownership – with no annual maintenance fees and low cost materials, Roland MDX users save thousands over the annual cost of other RP systems. Roland MDX works with a wide range of materials and delivers a smooth surface finish with accurate tight tolerances.

MDX-40A and MDX-540 series milling machines cost significantly less than 3D printers while producing precision prototypes out of a wider variety of non-proprietary materials. A larger selection of materials makes it easier to create prototypes, including UV resistance, bending strength, surface hardness and electrical conductivity. Roland SRP solutions come with SRP Player, powerful, easy to use CAM software that delivers the speed, tight tolerances and exceptionally smooth surface finishes required for prototyping and customised rapid manufacturing applications.

Functional Prototypes - Mill functional prototypes using a wide range of materials that additive systems do not support. Users can choose from popular engineered plastics such as ABS, Acetal and Nylon, as well as acrylic and polycarbonate for transparent parts and a variety of woods and metals including aluminium, brass and copper. Compared to additive RP systems, Roland desktop devices produce functional prototypes that are better for structural, thermal and electrical testing.

Models & Moulds - Product designers rely on models to thoroughly review a design and confirm its fit, finish and functionality. Roland’s MDX series creates models in ABS and other materials used to produce actual products. As a result, users can review a prototype that closely matches their final product.     The Roland MODELA MDX-50 mills an impressive variety of materials to produce models, vacuum forming moulds, jigs, parts, prototypes and more with smooth surface detail.

    The MDX-50 creates prototypes out of materials similar to the end product, allowing you to test structural and functional operations, and assembly with other parts. With a machining area of 400 (X) x 305 (Y) x 135 (Z) mm, the MDX-50 can produce large single objects or batch produce smaller multiple parts, making it ideal for a host of applications. A new Built-In-Panel allows you to adjust spindle and milling speed on the fly, while the on-screen “V-Panel” function aids production by monitoring tool life and notifying users via email when a job is completed or intervention is required.

    Automated Production

    Unattended operation for efficient workflow.

    The MDX-50 features an ATC (Automatic Tool Changer) as standard, to allow unattended operation day and night. The auto-sensing function corrects the tool length to ensure milling accuracy for every job. The optional rotary axis rotates materials automatically from 0 to 360 degrees continuously or indexes for 2-sided, 4-sided and custom angles to enable the easy and efficient production of pieces with complex surfaces. Thanks to the ATC and rotary axis units, once milling begins users can leave the device to run unattended with confidence, enabling them to get on with other jobs.
